THE ANNUAL ASSEMBLY IN ÅL 2011

INLEDNING
Släktföreningen har på sista tiden fått många nya medlemmar med rötter i Ål.
   Det är främst den s.k. Länsmanssläkten som utgör Ål-grenen i Olaus Laurentii släktträd på denna hemsida.
   Släktrelationen mellan Olaus Laurentii och Länsmanssläkten framgår av nedanstående släktträd där den sammanlänkande linjen markerats med rött. Johan Ahlenius i fjärde ledet på bilden var länsman i Ål, därav gårdsnamnet Länsmans.
   Olaus Laurentii svärson, Laurentius Erici, blev med tiden den förste kyrkoherden i Åls församling och bygde på senare år ett hus i byn Brenäs och längst ut på Brenäs udde. I denna by finns en lång tradition med innevånare med Laurentii-anknytning. Följaktligen passade det utmärkt att förlägga den traditionsenliga byvandringen till Brenäs denna gång.

INTRUDUCTION
The Society has recently obtained several new members with their roots i the Ål parish.
    First of all it is the Länsman's family, which forms the Ål branch in the Olaus Laurentii family tree presented on this web site.
   The family relation between Olaus Laurentii and the Länsman's family is clear from the five generation tree in the picture below. Follow the red path from Olaus Laurentii in the top downwards to Johan Ahlenius, and you will find the Länsman's familly (Länsmanssläkten in Swedish). Johan was a Länsman (a representative for the judiciary, i.e. a kind of police) in the old rural area, and that is the origin of the farm name Länsmans (genitive of Länsman).
   Olaus Laurentii son in law, Laurentius Erici, was, after a period as a priest in Gagnef, appointed the first vicar in the new parish Ål, and erected in his last few years a house for his wife in the village Brenäs, farthest away on Brenäs' cape (see more about that bellow). In this village, there is a long tradition with inhabitants with relation to Olaus Laurentii. Accordingly, it was appropriate to choose Brenäs for this year's village tour.


ÅRSSTÄMMAN

KYRKAN
Kyrkan i Ål var verkligen välbesatt när stämman inleddes med en välkomsthälsning av föreningens ordförande Birgitta Eriksson (se bild ovanför Brenäs-kartan), Gagnef, och kyrkoherden i Ål, Gunnar Kärrbom.
   Vi fick lyssna till sopranen Sofia Portsström från Insjön, som med sin vackra stämma framförde två folkliga sånger, en från Ål och en från Gagnef.
   Kyrkvaktmästaren i Ål, Per Gustafsson (på bilden bredvid Birgitta Eriksson nedan), fick sedan tillfälle att berätta om sin kyrka med hjälp av Gunnar Kärrbom, som visade upp de föremål som nämndes. Han berättade också om Laurentius Erici gravsten, som hittades under kyrkgolvet vid en restaurering på 1960-talet och vilken nu finns inmonterad i främre delen av kyrkans mittgång. Vi fick genom denna presentation en mycket bra beskrivning av kyrkan.
   Innan vi lämnade platsen gavs tillfälle att se sig om i kyrkan och ta sig en titt, bl.a. på stenen i golvet i främre delen av kyrkan, vilken minner oss om kyrkoherden Laurentius Erici.

LUNCHEN
Efter kyrkan var det dags att ta sig till Insjöns hotell där det stod dukat för lunch. Och det var inte någon liten skara, som bestämt sig för att inta sin lunch där. Omkring 150 personer, närmare bestämt, hade anmält sig, och tydligtvis var restaurangen fullsatt, såväl inomhus som ute på verandan.
   Jag tror inte att någon var missnöjd med maten.
   Sedan var det dags för ett logistikproblem.

BYVANDRING I BRENÄS
Logistikproblemet bestod i att transportera den stora skaran till längst ut på byns udde med dess ringa plats för privata bilar. Lösningen var givetvis bussar som fick köra flera turer. Byn utgörs nämligen längst ut, där samlingen skedde, av en udde sträckande sig ut i sjön Insjön, och dit leder en byväg med ägor och gårdar på respektive sidor. Inte många platser för parkering där.
   Nedan visas en karta över Brenäs, och längst upp på udden utpekas platsen för Länsmansgården där Laurentius Erici bygde huset till sin hustru.
   Därunder och till höger på kartan ser vi Ulf Berkvists, en ortens storföretagare som sågverksägare, ägor där han själv bor.
   Bilderna till höger nedan utgör en liten exposé av miljöer från byvandringen. Bilderna på gårdarna behöver inga speciella kommentarer, men deras lägen i byn finns utmärkta på kartan.
   Brenäs-äventyret inleddes med två presentationer i Ulf Bergkvists "lada", d.v.s. en gammal lada ombyggd till en trivsam samlingslokal.
   Ulf inledde det hela med att informera om trakten Brenäs och den som inte känner till orten sedan tidigare blev mycken kunskap rikare.
   Därefter tog Hans Hellström över och gav en initierad genomgång om människorna i Brenäs genom tiderna.
   Det kan också nämnas att den gamla krogen på Ulf Bergkvist ägor levde upp igen för dagen med nya friska krafter som entreprenörer.

KAFFE OCH ÅRSMÖTE I INSJÖNS TEATER
Nu skulle årsstämman avslutas med kaffe och årsmöte, och allt skedde i Insjöns teater. Det var många som var sugna på kaffe och tilltugg, men betydligt färre som deltog på mötet. Från det senare är att rapportera att Birgitta Eriksson omvaldes till ordförandeposten och att Hans Hellström från Ål invaldes i styrelsen som förste medlem fån Ål.

UNDERHÅLLNING EFTER ÅRSSTÄMMAN
Som en extrapunkt efter stämmans slut gavs en liten konsert på tunet vid Åls hembygdsgård. Det var organisten i Åls församling, Mattias Bäck, som stod för ett program med folkvisor och andra visor framförda av kyrkokören i Ål, under ledning av Mattias Bäck, och två mycket duktiga unga sångerskor, Sofia Sanden från Leksand och Ulrika Bodén från Ångermanland.
    De båda, som båda tillhör en framstående folkmusikgrupp, framträdde såväl tillsammans med kören som ensamma som duo.
   Av reaktionen bland åhörarna att döma, var det en mycket uppskattad underhållning man bjöds.
   Till slut kunde de som anmält det i förhand delta i en supé i kvällningen på hotellet och diskutera dagens händelser med likasinnade.
   Och därmed var en händelserik dag till ända.

THE CHURCH IN ÅL
Many members had turned up in the church when the meeting started with welcome addresses from Birgitta Eriksson, the society's president, and Gunnar Kärrbom, the vicar in Ål, with his far roots back to Olaus Laurentii and born in Gagnef.
   After that we could listen to the local soprano Sofia Portström, who, with her beautiful voice, presented two folk songs, one from Ål and one from Gagnef.
   The sexton in Ål, Per Gustafsson, was next presenting interesting details about "his" church and he was assisted by the vicar, mentioned above, to display important objects mentioned in the presentation. Per also tallked a litle about the Laurentius Ericii gravestone, found under the church floor at a restoration of the church during the 1960s, and which is now installed in the floor, in the fore part of the middle aisle. Per Gustafsson gave us a very good illustration of the church i Ål.
   Before it was time to leave the church, the participants were given opportunity to look around in the church and see, e.g. the Laurentius Erici stone.

THE LUNCH
From the church we had to move to Insjön's hotel for lunch. Many members. around 150, had announced in their advance registration that they wanted to have lunch in the hotel, and that was enough to fill up the dining room, insides as well as outside on the veranda.
   I believe that everybody present was more than satisfied with the food.
   After that it was time to solve a logistic problem.

PRESENTATION OF THE VILLAGE BRENÄS
The problem was to transport the big group of members to the most remote area of the village. As found from the map of Brenäs, below left, this place is a cape of a small peninsula in the lake Insjön and mostly private, lacking official parking. Thus very few could take their own cars to the place and busses were used to solve the problem.
   On the map we can see the place where Laurentius Erici had his house, Länsamnsgården, called Brenäs 1 in the old church records.
   Below that, there are the grounds of Ulf Bergkvist, an entrepreneur and owner of a big sawmill company in Ål. He lives in this area.
   The photographs below right are a little survey of pictures from activities at the meeting point at the Brgkvist's place and the localities along the walk on the village road. The places of the farm houses are pointed out on the map.
   (The photographs can be looked at in a bigger format by chosing the uppermost command, "Show picture", or similar, in the menu which appeared).
   The Brenäs adventure started with two presentation in the "Berkvist's lada (barn)", an old barn on Uls Bergkvist's grounds, restored and fit up with a very attractive assembly hall inside.
   Ulf Bergkvist started making a presentation of the village Brenäs such that we got a good idea as what it is and what it has been.
   After that Hans Hellström took over and talked about the people in the village, then and now. He had gathered much of valuable information of that kind.
   It should also be mentioned that the old restaurant in Bergkvist's area (Brenäs krog in swedish) had revived for the state occasion and you can see the cue to it and the interior with the new entrepreneurs (the pictures "Kön till Brenäs krog" " and "Och här har vi de nya krögarna")

COFFEE AND THE PROCEEDINGS AT THE ANNUAL MEETING AT THE INSJÖN THEATRE
It was now time to finish the Annual Assembly and, surely, many of the members had a longing for a cup of coffee after all new experiences. With so many people present, it had to be enjoyed in a narrow local, but nobody complained.
   Not all the members present at other activities attended the meeting proceedings, but that was either expected. Anyway, it should be mentioned that Birgitta Eriksson was reelected as precident of the board, and that the board now has a member representing Ål, Hans Hellström.

OPEN-AIR CONCERT AFTER THE OFFICIAL POGRAM
The Ål part of the team, arranging the Annual Assembly, offered an open-air concert at Ål's folk museum.
   The organist in Ål, Mattias Bäck, also he with his roots back to Olaus Laurentii, and born in Gagnef, had put together a program with folk songs and ballads. Perfoming were the Ål church choir, with Mattias Bäck as conductor, and two young women singers, Sofia Sandin from Leksand and Ulrika Bodén from Ångermanland. The two singers performed both together with the choir and as duo singers, and it was an evident impression, that the audience was really satisfied with this high-class performances.
   After the concert it was possible, for those who had applied to it in the registration, to attain a supper and discuss their experiences of the day.
   And by that this year's assembly had come to its end.
